Epoxy Flooring Specifications

Reepol has a vast experience of industrial flooring systems gained over 20 years in the business. We have undertaken epoxy resin flooring projects for customers in almost every UK industrial and commercial sector.

If your concrete floor has to withstand particular operating conditions, the chances are that we will have encountered these circumstances before, and can pass on the benefits of our experience.

Listed below are some of the more demanding requirements that we encounter on a regular basis.

If your situation isn’t covered, or you would like to discuss particular aspects, please

Non-Slip Floors

Reepol non-slip floor coatings are used in circumstances where surface moisture or fluids accumulate, thereby reducing the traction that a dry floor would normally provide.

Solutions vary according to whether the area is permanently wet, subject to occasional spillage, or perhaps attracts rainwater if adjacent to an exterior entrance.

Reepol will review prevailing circumstances and recommend the required degree of anti-slip flooring material that your floor needs in order to be safe.

Note that there is a balance to be struck between anti-slip properties and ease of cleaning. Reepol will discuss your cleaning processes and advise on their effectiveness in relation to the degree of anti-slip being proposed.

Durability of the anti-slip flooring material also has to be considered. If longevity is an important requirement, we recommend our system which uses an aluminium oxide antislip additive. This surface lasts eight to ten times longer than quartz sand, which we specify in lighter duty circumstances.

Anti-Static Properties

Standard epoxy flooring products act as insulators and will therefore not conduct to earth any build-up in static charge as a result of pedestrian foot traffic.

Reepol has a range of anti-static epoxy flooring systems designed for circumstances where there is some risk of static build-up and discharge. These products conform to BS2050.

Where the risk of static build-up has more serious implications, say in an electronics manufacturing environment, or where potentially explosive vapours or dust might be present, then Reepol can provide epoxy flooring products that conform to the more stringent Static Dissipative Flooring Standard BS61340.

Both products enable any static charge generated by foot traffic to be immediately and safely discharged to earth through the floor.

Chemically Resistant Floor Coatings

Reepol is able to provide flooring systems that can withstand chemical attack.

Over the years we have tested the capability of our products against a wide range of hazardous chemicals at various levels of concentration and at different temperatures.

If you need to protect your concrete floors against potentially harmful spillage, please let us have details and we should be able to specify a formulation that will provide the necessary protection.

Concrete Repair

Damaged floors represent Health & Safety ‘slip and trip’ hazards and can make the movement of small-wheeled handling equipment such as pallet trucks difficult operate.

Reepol has a range of concrete repair products so that damaged areas can be restored. Curing time is only 4-6 hours so if undertaken as part of a refurbishment exercise, work can proceed without delay.

If the concrete flooring has been impregnated we can analyse the degree of impregnation and recommend, if possible, one of our biodegradable treatments. Otherwise it may be necessary to remove the impregnated surface layer using scabbling equipment.

Decorative Flooring

We find that our users are increasingly recognising the benefits of a bright and aesthetically pleasing working environment.

A well-presented floor space demonstrates to your customers a quality-conscious approach, and it has long been recognised that employees respond positively to pleasant surroundings.

Reepol offers a range of decorative resin flooring systems that help your operation achieve high standards of visual presentation.

We can advise on the use of contrasting colours to good effect, and we have multi-coloured, quartz-effect products in various colour combinations, which offer something different.

Should you wish to include logos or motifs as part of your decorative flooring, our contractors have the skills to apply these as part of laying a top coat. (We recommend that such embellishments are not painted onto an existing top coat, as these can quickly wear away).

Floor Maintenance

If a floor stays dry at all times it is possible to specify a smooth surface finish that is easy to clean.

If this is not the case, and some degree of anti-slip surface roughness is required, it is essential that the correct cleaning regime is observed.

Without this, an anti-slip surface quickly becomes clogged. Not only does this result in a poor appearance, the anti-slip properties can be reduced.

In the case of anti-static surfaces, accumulated grime forms an insulating layer that reduces the anti-static protection.

As part of specifying a flooring system, Reepol will always comment on the suitability of existing floor maintenance equipment.

Health & Safety

Reepol can advise on how your floor should be presented to comply with latest Health & Safety regulations.

Our Health & Safety provisions include:

  • Repairing holes in that may be a safety hazard
  • Applying anti-slip surfaces in areas subject to accumulation of fluids or spillage
  • Demarcation of pedestrian walkways using contrasting colour conventions
  • Installing zebra-style crossing points
  • Installing demarcation lines to designate the boundaries of working areas
  • Highlighting the edges of steps and changes in levels
  • Applying floor signage such as warning signs and exits

High Traffic Areas

When industrial flooring is subject to intensive use, such as high levels of pedestrian footfall or forklift traffic, Reepol recommends the use of heavy duty, trowel-applied systems in affected areas.

Reepol trowel-applied surfaces vary in thickness from 6-10 mms depending on the severity of requirement, and the quality of substrate in the case of a refurbishment situation.

Some heavy duty systems may require four coats to be applied, so the length of time an area has to be out of action needs to be considered.

Reepol heavy duty floors are guaranteed for up to 10 years, according to thickness, but we can provide examples of Reepol installations that are still in excellent condition after 15 to 20 years.

Minimising Downtime

Loss of a working area to refurbish the floor is not only inconvenient, it can impact on service to customers and production throughput.

In these circumstances we can be flexible. Our contractors are used to working out of hours, weekends, during holiday shutdowns, etc.

It is very often the case that a large floor area will be divided into several phases according to what can be achieved, say, overnight or during a weekend.

Value for Money Solutions

When determining your project budget it is essential to avoid the trap of false economy.

Cheaper solutions offer apparent savings, but these savings can quickly evaporate if the exercise has to be repeated again after a short space of time, particularly when the disruption involved in carrying out the work is taken into consideration.

Reepol can provide an excellent industrial flooring solution that is only marginally more expensive, but last three or four times longer, and therefore represent better value for money.

A correctly specified and installed Reepol floor can easily last for 10 years or more and still look good, even in demanding environments.
